I am Damien Hirst. I am an unknown non-profit artist from Slovenia. I am doing art by doing art. My art glorifies the futileness of being an artist. It's a parody of the belief in nothing. My purpose is to demystify everything that was mystified in the name of art.
Art is a religion and I am an atheist.
My goal is the appropriation of art as an intellectual interpretation to reverse the process of applying artistic value to objects and concepts. I am not just doing art but I am doing art by doing art and by doing so I am basically un-doing art.
I am Damien Hirst and I am artistic.
If the art world agrees that it is possible to take an idea of a common object and transform it into an idea of an artwork (ready-made) then a logical consistency requires us to also agree that it is possible to take an idea of an artwork and transform it into an idea of a common object (un-ready-made).
In 1917 a French artist Marcel Duchamp selected and modified an ordinary manufactured object. By simply choosing the object and applying a few changes to it the object became art. The ready-made art was born.
In 2009 some Slovenian guy selected a name of a famous artist and modified it by applying it to his own creative activities. By simply choosing the name of a famous artist and using it as his own he became an artist. The ready-made-artist was born.
Slovenian Damien Hirst is effectively the first artist in the world who's artistic relevance comes solely (or almost) from appropriating another artist's name and applying a new meaning to it.
The definition of art
Art is what is bought as art. Everything that a person buys believing he or she is buying art and with the intention of buying art is indeed art. What defines art is therefore the act of buying something as art.
My goal is to question everything that is declared as art and to accept everything else as having the potential of being art. I want to make people realize that they have the potential not only to consume art but to consume it in the way that would actually create art.
